What is Reiki?
Reiki in its
most commonly practiced form is a natural healing system designed to
assist in healing and help achieve balance in body, mind and spirit.
Reiki is administered by a practitioner, who serves as an instrument
through whom the Universal Life Energy can be transmitted to the
recipient, by either hands-on or distance healing techniques. Reiki
practitioners also practice Reiki self-treatments as a regular
discipline. Reiki is balance. It works on physical, emotional and
spiritual levels. Reiki energizes and heals the body.
Research
studies have shown that it speeds wound healing time, lowers blood
pressure, reduces stress, and is effective as part of a regime to manage
pain. Anecdotal reports reveal that Reiki has cured serious illnesses.
Reiki compliments other health care and medical treatments. Reiki speeds
the healing process and can minimize the side effects of conventional
medical treatments.
Reiki is not a
religion. Neither is it a new age practice. It has been used by
practitioners of Christianity, Buddhism, Shintoism, Hinduism, and Islam,
and it is a spiritual practice that compliments any faith as a hands on
healing practice.
How does Reiki energy flow?
Simple answer - No one knows! All else is
speculative and personal opinion.
Basically Reiki flows through our palms at different rates of speed,
depending on various factors such as the extent of the recipient’s
illness, degree of blockage, his or her readiness to accept change, and
so on.
Is Reiki a form of faith healing?
No, Reiki is not a religion, nor is it based on the acceptance of any
religious doctrine. Having a belief system is not a requirement for
Reiki to work. Reiki does not infringe on anyone’s right to believe what
he or she wishes. However, Reiki’s principles are spiritual in nature
and do encourage spiritual empowerment and growth.
Who can benefit from a Reiki treatment?
Everyone can benefit from Reiki. Reiki’s gift of increased energy and
vitality can be extended to all, it doesn’t matter what a person’s
gender, race, intelligence, or financial status is. Reiki is not a
healing energy reserved only for the elite, wealthy, educated, or
spiritually evolved.
What does Reiki feel like?
Common Reiki sensations are heat or coolness, “pins and needles”
tingling, vibrational buzzing, electrical sparks, numbness, throbbing,
itchiness, and drowsiness but may be none or all of the above.
What is a Reiki attunement?
The reiki
system is one that awakens this energy from teacher to student with an
initiation. This initiation is often referred to as an empowerment or
an attunement. An attunement is a ritual action performed by the reiki
teacher to awaken in the student this energy. The ritual involves
energetic placement of Reiki symbols through a specific set of sequenced
actions into the student’s crown and palms.
Will Reiki ever run out?
When you are giving a Reiki treatment to someone, you are giving of your
time and your intent to assist, but you are not giving away any of your
own energy. Reiki is in infinite supply. It never runs out.
What is the purpose of the Reiki hand
placements?
A reiki
treatment involves sharing reiki using the hands. The hand positions
are sets that some of the early masters of reiki found worked well in
treating the majority of the meridian, chakra and important areas of the
body. Typical emphasis is placed on devoting about five minutes, more
or less, on each hand placement so that no part of the body is neglected
and to ensure that each body part is given equal consideration.
Do I need to direct the flow of Reiki?
Reiki will automatically go to wherever it needs to go with no mental
involvement of either the practitioner or the recipient. However, when
mental intention is used, a linear pathway is opened. This cleared route
allows Reiki to flow more effectively to that part of the body where
attention is most desired.
What purpose do Reiki symbols serve?
Independently, each Reiki symbol has its own unique purposes. The
combined function of these symbols is to provide Reiki practitioners
with focal points for their healing intentions. Many practitioners use
the symbols but some do not.
How do we know that
healing is appropriate for Christians?
In I Corinthians 14:1 Paul tell us to eagerly desire spiritual gifts. In
I Corinthians 12: 28 Paul says that healing is one of the gifts. Paul
also says that each of the gifts is best expressed with love. Jesus
stated in John 14:12 something like, "the truth is, anyone who has faith
in me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things
than these, because I go to the Father." We know that Jesus practiced
laying on hands type healing, therefore, it is scriptural for Christian
to practice healing by laying on hands and that's how Reiki is
practiced.
What is the best way for a
Christian to practice Reiki?
Reiki provides a very wonderful way for Christians to make use of God's
love and power. When giving or receiving Reiki attunements or
treatments, call on God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit to work
directly through you and do the healing for you. This can be done
through prayer before Reiki sessions, attunements or classes etc. In
this way your connection with God's love can become very powerful and
act as a source of guidance, healing and love that will always be
available to you.
